Small Business Management Workshops

Workshops designed by and for small business owners/managers.

Program Overview:

You've owned or managed a business for several years. You have a passion for innovation and you want to build on your success. Maybe you want to recruit the right staff to join your operation, seek out investment capital or refine your financial management systems.

Five separate modules will be held every other Wednesday, starting in March 2012. Each full day session (10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.) is developed and led by a professional with years of business experience. Completion of all five modules will result in the awarding a UOIT Management Certificate.

Program Objectives:

• Improve your recruiting and staff management skills;
• Explore how you might better use technology as a management tool;
• Consider what is available to you and your business to manage your marketing efforts;
• Seek out investment capital or refine your financial management systems;
• Evaluate and assess your businesses strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats using well established techniques of SWOT and PEST.

Choose from the following individual sessions that best suit your business needs.  Upon successful completion of all five modules participants will receive a UOIT certificate in Small Business Management.

Location and Fees:

UOIT, North Campus, 2000 Simcoe Street North, Oshawa, ON
Fee:   $325 per module 
or $1,400 + HST to complete all five and recieve a UOIT Small Business Management Certificate.

All materials, refreshments and final UOIT certificate will be provided.

Featured Instructor:

Morden S. Shapiro, FCA, CMC

MDC is pleased to welcome Morden S. Shapiro to our professional group of instructors. Morden has been a consultant for professional firms and small businesses throughout Canada for over 35 years. He is a well-known teacher, author and public presenter. Morden is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and a Certified Management Consultant. He is currently an instructor with the Faculty of Business and IT where he teaches a variety of Business Management, Entrepreneurship and Managerial Accounting courses.

For many years Morden managed his own business, first as a practicing public accountant and for the past 35 years as a Management Consultant. As the Director of UOIT's latest MDC certificate program, Morden brings his vast and relevant experience directly to assist small business owners and managers.
