2011 Graduating Class
This master's certificate is an intensive 16-day executive education program. It consists of 12 courses for managers and executives with diverse educational backgrounds who are new to, or experienced at working in a municipal government organization. Participants will receive a framed certificate upon completion.

Program Objectives:
- Network and learn with others who share similar experiences and challenges;
- Improve leadership and communication skills;
- Understand the coaching relationship and how to best develop people's potential;
- Recognize and handle various negotiating tactics;
- Identify and apply strategic management and business planning;
- Understand how to structure continuous improvement and manage project management;
- Develop business case and problem solving skills;
- Understand public sector reforms, particularly in local/municipal government; and
- Comprehend organizational performance and challenges facing the public sector and municipal government.
Program Details:
This program runs every other Friday from mid-September to May of the following year. Accommodation is made for statutory holidays and March break allowing for some flexibility. Participants must complete each module in order to receive their framed certificate at a formal graduation held each May.
Our 8th program began in September of 2011 with 28 participants who are employed by the Region of Durham, City of Oshawa, Town of Ajax, Town of Whitby and Pickering Fire Services.
We currently have over 250 alumni invited to our graduation ceremony and alumni event held at our UOIT campus every May.
Each year our program is re-evaluated to ensure it is up-to-date and includes valuable information applicable to all public sector managers and supervisors.
